He continues to be one of my favorites in the game: quality and consistency (even though he didn't even drop an album this year!). But if Jazz's posts are any indication, Roc Marci's got some heat dropping in 2016. I can't f**king wait! Whutupdoe!? That's right, this is Hip Hop Is Read's first-ever regional best-of compilation. Bet you didn't see this one coming! But you shouldn't be surprised. Once again, Detroit hip hop had a breakout year, with Eminem's "Detroit vs. Everybody" serving as a fitting anthem for the city and its multitudes of talented artists. This compilation is 90(!) tracks deep and aims to feature and highlight both mainstream and underground approaches, from legends and up-and-comers alike. Enjoy... and turn it up!!

Black Hippy - The 4 Kings (Best of 2014)

Another year dominated by Kendrick Lamar and, to a lesser extent, his fellow Black Hippy members: ScHoolboy Q dropped a fantastic record with Oxymoron; Ab-Soul's These Days was kinda hit or miss, leaving something to be desired; and once again, Jay Rock dropped nothing more than some (delicious) bread crumbs. Will 2015 be the year that TDE finally runs the full-court press and bogarts the rap game? I can only hope... Until then, enjoy The 4 Kings... and turn it up!!

Gangsta Gibbs is the reigning champion of these yearly best-ofs. I've been putting together these Blue Note-inspired compilation since 2010 and Freddie Gibbs has always provided both quality AND quantity to justify his very own spot, year after year. No album from Bronsolino in 2014, but that didn't stop him from dropping some great tracks/features. "Easy Rider" is the intro and focal point here, but this entire compilation is pretty solid as an LP. Enjoy... and turn it up!!

On the low, Kool G Rap had himself a busy year. I put together this little compilation of the Genius of Rap's various featured tracks of 2014. These collaborations are a bit all over the place, and some of them aren't really my style at all (i.e. the track with Cold World), but I can't complain. It's still KGR. Enjoy... and turn it up!!
