A Walk Thru the Valley... or Chinatown?


Every time I'd listen to Masta Ace Incorporated's SlaughtaHouse album (a.k.a. "The Yellow Tape"), the intro track would always remind me of a sound I'd heard before. Problem was, I could never quite put my finger on it. Then one day Roman Polanski's 1974 film Chinatown came to mind: specifically, the noirishly sultry orchestral score provided by the masterful Jerry Goldsmith. I'm still not 100% sure I've found a perfect match here, but maybe I'm one step further in the right direction. Listen to the Goldsmith track above (pay attention to the first few seconds) and then do the same with the track below. What do you think?
