Bottom line:

You know I (almost) always keep it 100% with my reviews, but I gotta say, I like this album a lot more than I expected. In the past decade, I've been gradually turned off by Kanye's increasingly more decadent lyrics and production. One might go so far as to call me an apostate of the church of Yeezus. But again, I kinda like this album. It's got plenty of highlights (though in my opinion, the Young Thug-assisted "High Lights" is not one of them). It's incongruous. I generally don't like that. One definitely gets the sense that this record was dedicatedly produced yet tactlessly cobbled together. Sh*t, maybe that was the point. (Not to mention, the cover art is an absolute atrocity.) Kanye originally introduced The Life of Pablo (under various titles) as containing ten tracks. It'd serve this album well to be whittled down a bit to cut out what I deem to be filler. There's plenty of it. But again, and again, all in all, I kinda, sorta, really do like this album. FML. (I wouldn't pay $20 for it though LOL...)

Once again, I'd like to thank all the amazing HHIReaders who have contributed to the tip jar so far. Much appreciated! Like I said before, if you're feeling generous, please consider a contribution to Hip Hop Is Read. It's not tax-deductible, but if my work receives a nice amount of financial support, I can promise I'll keep doing this for years to come... Thank you!
