Full disclosure: I'm an obsessive Cat Power fan. Her new EP, Dark End of the Street, covers one of the greatest rock songs of all time: Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son", which was a protest song against the Vietnam War, but it could be applied to any wars, really. The song points a finger at all the "fortunate sons" who are able to avoid combat, while the masses are recruited. It always reminds me of that Sartre quote: "When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die". Anyways, I thought that the subject matter on Capone-N-Noreaga's "Follow the Dollar" was kinda/sorta/vaguely/somewhat similar in the fact that it's thesis is about tracing the seedy history of dollar bills - all the places those dollar bills have been. So yeah, I mixed the two tracks together. Nothing too special. I might be the only one who enjoys this weird duo, er, I mean trio, but lemme know what you think...

that anonymous comment is hilarious and although I haven't heard your other mixes I'm not a fan of this blend. Maybe try it with a mos def or talib type rapper. Capone & NORE are too gangster for Cat...

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think I like the original CnN track better, but the concept/vision here is dope. Hip hop has always been about finding something new in unexpected blends, and the messages in each song do compliment eachother. Just... not musically.

Yo Ivan i like it man, i've been bumping it on shuffle and its quality when its comes in unexpected...dunno if that makes any sense. It's a good contrast to that hard and fast stuff (pause?)
