"I reached out to a lot of rappers and I told 'em what I was gonna do for Sean Bell and a lot of them just... 'I got a gang of excuses'. Turned pussy. Nobody wanna stand up and be a man. We don't have a problem putting out a mixtape dissing each other but the people that you say or you claim to hate so much, which is, or the situation that render us helpless like police brutality, excessive force, people using the shield to really deal the wrong way with human beings, you know, like nobody wanna stand up for that except me. Sh*t is f*cked up, man, people just don’t understand, man. And that's why I don’t wanna be a part of hip hop no more. It just ain’t right, man. And hip-hop just didn’t used to be like this, you know? Like, it's not why I do it. It's not why I'm here. And I just get so angry that hip hop is in the state of emergency that it's in. 'Cause people just don't care no more. So when I say that I'm going to retire, I feel just because I don't belong in this hip hop. I belong in like, the old hip hop. I should have came up in hip hop... People that really didn’t care about being vocal you know. N.W.A., Public Enemy, people that really stood. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte. Come on with this shit man. This hip hop, ain't no place for me. So I don't wanna coexist with these cats no more."

Offcourse they all didnt want to put their name to it,because their record companies wouldnt let them
ReplyDeleteI feel his frustration, ...but what did he expect with a '08 version of "Cop Killer?"
ReplyDeleteI definitely understand where he is coming from but what will he do. He is the official west coast hip hop scholar and its in him. I don't think he'll be gone for too long....at least I hope not
ReplyDeleteNot to discount Ice T and his editorial on the current state of hip hop, but this is a much more mature and realistic way to tell 16 year olds to eat a dick. I would rather quit then be associated with this bull shii, amen.
ReplyDeleteMr Jayceon Taylor
ReplyDeleteCop Killa was not/is not a posse cut
and a posse cut will not change the world
that aside
Thought your position was to forget haters and forge ahead, cutting your own path to posterity ----so do that then, brother
Stand up and lead by example - bring "old hip hop back" then - coexist with old heads...
Fans will fall in line if they believe what you are saying and, more importantly, doing...
put out an entire mixtape about the reality of being a black man in America (get your hip hop historian on - come real over old school beats with as much passion for larger subjects as you have for Mr C. Jackson and crew - inject as few power fantasies as possible and you will have gained a fan in me)
Give up a Game chain to help Sean Bell's family
stop talking about retirement - go independent and put out the hip hop you think the fans need to hear -
and keep it moving
Stand up for what you believe in...
ReplyDeleteWhen you walk away they win
i feel him and im not a fan. being in my early 30's i came up with hip hop in the 90's. one thing about music then..it gave back.
ReplyDeletepharse's like "take the pillow from your head and put a book in it" and the song "beef" are just a few things that gave me an option in thinking.
I cant say one song or group changed my life, but the overall mood of that culture let me feel comfortable to be myself and not afraid to question things.
While there are groups that still give back...there is'nt an overall push to be conscious about much of anyting.
-Easy
I'll say this...when a man stands in front of a camera and says something that is undeniable...it requires other men/women to stand up and take notice.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be a time - sometime in the genre of rap music that the culture, the TRUE culture of hip hop manifests and cats who refer to themselves as men...check your shit ya know? I wish Game nothing but the best and if he comes back or not...what I see in him makes me proud that he did his thing and represented wonderfully.
Shit is real on planet Earth and the sooner we catch on to the real message the inner self message - the better off we'll be as humans. Hip Hop is dead, long live Hip Hop.
I like game and everything but this is like the third time I've seen him talking about shit like this and it's always the same.. and honestly anyone can say those things, he needs to stop bitchin and keep making good music and show the little kids how its done, not mope around like a little bitch crying and shit
