Myspace Mondays with... Remot

Remot

Amongst the frenzy of '07/'08's swarm of American Gangster remixes arose an elite group of top-notch up-and-coming producers. Previous Myspace Monday emcee/beatsmith SoulKlap submitted a soulfully polished backdrop for Jay's vocals. K-Def, Von Pea and Cookin' Soul were a few more names on this stellar list of talent. We can't list these names, however, without mentioning your boy Remot from outta space (I ain't playin': check his Myspace!). Remot simply ripped it.

Thanks to HHIR fam Kevin's diligent work over the past few months in compiling an extensive index of the best of the best American Gangster remixes, I came across Remot's work. If that weren't enough, his name has been blowing up all across the web, winning HipHopDX.com's American Gangster ReMixtape Contest and producing an exclusive for breakthrough emcee Donny Goines.

If you're first hearing about Remot right here, then this is your last chance to get on the train before the kid blows up (even more so than he already has been). Remot doesn't just make beats, he elaborates rhythmical environments that evoke soulful expressions beneath the emcees they envelope. If there's one thing his work isn't, it's glossy: and that's a good thing. Remot's soundscapes are raw and dustier than the bowl of the 30's. His sample-digging skills are worth mentioning as well. Throughout the past few years, we've seen some great talent arise in the form of now-greats like 9th Wonder and Nicolay (both of whom have been compared, stylistically). Well, I'd be making a smart bet by banking on Remot to be the next in line. Pleezbaleevit!
