About a month ago, I got an e-mail about this great compilation album full of obscure breaks and samples. Well, at the time I got a bit side-tracked with the whole Madlib fiasco, and completely left this one hanging in blog-limbo. Like Madlib, Mr. Thing has an insanely eclectic taste in music, and 'Strange Breaks & Mr. Thing' totally exemplifies this rhythmic depth. Check out the tracklisting (right here) for this double-CD compilation. Insane right? I challenge anyone to say they know 5 of those artists: minimum!
Anyways, the label (London-based BBE Records) gave me the green light to freely distribute one track from this album: 'Yes We Can Can' by The Discoettes. Though the break doesn't ring a bell (lemme know if you catch it), I can definitely say one thing: This track has GOT to be Obama's new theme song. LOL! Feel me? Check it out to get a feel for what this great, soulful record is all about:
