First Peek: Katalyst - What's Happening

A great new release by Aussie soulman Katalyst, 'What's Happening' is a funky ride through space and time (at least it feels like it). The preview track below doesn't do this album justice at all, but at least you'll get the vibe of it all. Enjoy:

  1. Maybe you smoke crack, I don't know, but this album is about as new as The Jackson 5.

  3. In fairness, maybe the American release is through BBE and "brand new", but if you did a bit of homework you'd know that this album came out last year originally on Invada Records.

  4. In fairness, why don't you compare the two tracklistings? Shhhh...... ;-D

  5. So the tracklisting is slightly different - now you're just splitting hairs. Record label in "slightly different" tracklisting scandal, yeah like that doesn't happen often.

No doubt you get bombarded by labels and PR companies trying to get you to push their latest stuff, but don't be lazy, do some research yourself too.

And as for preaching bout the likes of Sway and Estelle as some of the UK's finest, don't even get me started. If when you think of "UK Hip-Hop" you automatically think of Sway, Estelle, Dizzi Rascal, Wiley etc... then you're being a bit ignorant. It would be like US hip-hop beginning with Jay-Z and ending with Kanye - that's just the stuff that gets rammed down your throat 24/7 by the media.

Otherwise, I really dig your site.

  6. Do your homework homie (lol): Redirect your Sway/Estelle comments towards our UK correspondent Bilal.

  7. Well that is even more tragic, that a so called "UK correspondent" would choose to pimp such stuff to represent the nation.

No love for Rup the Cnut, Koaste, Ghost, Verb T, Braintax, Lewis Parker, Jon Phonics, Kashmere, Dr Syntax, Asaviour, Skinnyman, Tommy Evans, Mystro and a shit load of others, because it is far easier to push the media friendly trash. Don't get me wrong, UK hip-hop isn't particularly strong right now, but the UK can represent far better than with the likes of Sway and co.

  9. Sorry mate, just stating the facts. I don't know who's been working where and for how long. Still, from my point of view (and really that is all it is), it is not a very encouraging start on the topic of UK hip-hop.
