Its amazing to see how much of that music i own, yet never made the connection with the samples. its making me take a deeper look at everything now. How do you go about doing this besides liner notes on the album art..or are you just a walking jukebox?

This site is my guidebook to raiding record stores, salvation armys and old folks basements for vinyl records for me to mix and sample with, just like DJ Premier did. I actually drove to the record store this afternoon after falling out of my chair listening to the wicked Ahmad Jamal sample used in Gangstarrs Soliloquy of chaos and bought that album on vinyl. If anything Ivan is doing music, specifically hiphop a favor. Half these childrens dont understand the basics of this art form and only know the consumerist aspects such as bling and sippin dranks. Maybe if they see and hear the samples that make up classic albums like this, they will not just buy the next lil wayne record. They might buy a charles mingus, an aretha franklin or even criminal minded! Its a win win if you ask me. Not riding the nuts. Just speakin the truth.

ReplyDeleteFunny, I was just thinking about StetsaSonic and "All That Jazz" the other day. Hip Hop done made so many FORGOTTEN artists loot, that everyone owes Hip Hop a check. From Linguistics robbing script writers and adMen to long lost musicians. The greatest original American artform, I salute US all...HIP HOP Ya Don't STOP!!! Flick'em off like Hov said, and yes he is Hip Hop...That other anon sounds like the disillusioned guitar player I met who had only spent the last 20 years travelling the world when I used to bartend on 42St.
