Great post! Then again, this is one of my favorite albums of all time, so I may be biased, but who cares? For the entire experience, people may want to also watch John Woo's "The Killer", but be sure to get the english-dubbed version, not the original; that may seem counter-intuitive, coming from a film guy, but it'll make sense as you follow the Cuban Linx album from start to finish.

ReplyDeleteAh, Matt. You ask a great question which has raged for years.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, there is definitely a sample used for the beat, though nobody knows the actual song.
I'm dead serious.
It's been one of Hip-Hop's greatest mysteries for a quite some time...
There's a confirmed sample for Ice Cream Pt. II, but it most certainly isn't the same as the original.
Someone should ask RZA...

ReplyDeletei think the vocal sample is a chopped up jackson five "i want you back"
ReplyDeletealthough the melody confuses me

ReplyDeleteWu-gambinos isn't a sample!
ReplyDeleteand I heard he sampled an old Ice Cream truck tune for ice cream... although that could be total BS who knows
