"Obama Reagan" by Fruelund
Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks just dropped his latest write-up on Huffington Post, titled "Who is More Conservative: Ronald Reagan or Barack Obama?" He makes a compelling case, citing Reagan's amnesty deal, terrorist negotiations, and raised taxes - all contrasted with Obama's troop level escalation, hands-off approach to corporations, and lowered taxes. Kinda makes ya think, don't it? (I realize the hypocrisy in that sentence, don't worry.) The observation that Cenk makes in his conclusion is spot-on: the political climate has significantly shifted to the right over the years.
Despite the fact that we've got a Black president, we've still got an overwhelmingly conservative Supreme Court. We've got new laws that let people bring guns to public parks, bars, and now churches. In Arizona, you can be detained by the police for mere suspicion of being illegal, whatever that means. The military industrial complex runs shit. The prison industrial complex runs shit (hold your head, Lindsay). A few years ago, New Orleans was underwater. Pretty soon it'll be underoil (just coined that - patent pending). Even England's new conservative Prime Minister has the balls to point a stern finger at BP for the oil spill. Politicians in Washington? Hardly a peep. Basically we're fucked.
