Hip Hop Is Read Presents: ?uestlove, The Funky Drummer

What? Y'all thought I was sleeping the whole week? Hell naw! As the temperature continues to drop and the leaves start falling, I'll be posting up some great compilations big-upping hip hop's favorite drummer, ?uestlove. It's an idea I've had for quite some time, and I know you're all gonna love it! Based on the infamous J Dilla: The Anthology series, we'll be highlighting ?uesto's broad musical range as he has collaborated with artists from all over the globe, covering genres like hip hop, soul (and neo-soul), reggae, rock, lounge, jazz and so on. You name it and ?-Love's done it. In most cases, our series' tracks will feature ?uestlove as the drummer, but on some occasions he'll also be credited as producer. We all know ?uesto best as the drummer from the Legendary Roots Crew. Because of that, I'll try to keep any Roots tracks to a minimal as my effort in this project is to emphasize ?uesto's other great contributions.

I plan on releasing several of these compilations, as I've got plenty of material! Keep it locked right here! ;-D

  1. Kevin, I thank you. I've been a avid read of you blog for ages, it what started my interested in samples and from there my musical exploration began, it's been a year now and I'm crazy about music, I started playing drums again all the new music really gave the musical side of me a huge boost, i study engineering and comp sci at uni, so my artistic side had kinda fallen of.

But after my new found love and deep understanding of the genre and now been introduced to such various has boosted my drive.

The past week i've been bumping the roots and reading abut ?uestlove (saw the interview on about.com you did as well ;) ) Digging his style and trying to feel his flow

Thanks allot for putting in such an enormous effort into the site. Rediscovering my love of music helped me through some hard times. Looking forward some awesome posts :)
