My Beats: Cohiba

Made this one just after I had a bowl of cereal and skimmed over my back-Google Reader posts/articles.
All I can tell you about this beat is that it features samples from a Dizzy Gillespie album. It's got an Afro-Cuban swing to it, and the picture above got him smoking a cigar, so, accordingly, I named this one 'Cohiba'. ;-D
Enjoy the preview:

Feedback/criticism is greatly appreciated!

  2. Sounds good maybe after the trumpets fade out you can put some piano to it which plays the same melody

  5. yea, i agree, its needs some faint, almost live sounding piano playing on it. u start in with the hook, play that melody, with a little something special, but follow the trumpet melody. and then after, for the end, do something totally differently, keeping in that same register, almost like a solo. put some stank on it son. its nice how it is tho.

  6. Know this post is quite old, but found it accidentally. Some time ago I made a remix of the same Dizzy's track, love these trumpets!

Here you can listen to my version:

I know there's hard cut at the end of track, but that's because I was usin this as a instrumental for freestyle rhyming and putting it in a loop. Hope you'll enjoy it!

  7. That's my photo of Dizzy Gillespie taken in 1976 or so. He has just gotten back from Cuba, so those are real Cuban cigars!

You might want to listen to the "Portrait Of Jenny", "Bahiana" and "The Source" cds.
"The Source" has a especially funky version od "Manteca" with Kenny Clarke on drums!
