Still bothered by Nipsey Hussle's death. Been listening to a lot of his music again lately. It's such a terrible loss, both to rap music as a whole AND, more specifically, the city of Los Angeles which I call home. Even if you weren't a Nipsey Hussle fan in the past, I urge you to go back and listen to his music. Start, perhaps, with his opus, one of my favorite hip hop albums released in 2018, Victory Lap. I've been appreciating it even more since his death. His message - the true message in his music - is splattered all across his albums/mixtapes; gems can be found EVERYWHERE. Again, what a loss.
Hussle ominously called himself "2Pac of my generation" in the past. He might be right. Like 'Pac, I hope that his message lives on past his lifetime on earth and extends to multiple generations.
This volume of The Tape Deck features "Racks in the Middle," the last single Nipsey Hussle released in his lifetime. It's also got a track featuring Amy Winehouse, and another one featuring Nate Dogg. Oh, and of course I'm still digging that Small Pro-produced Sean Price album. Got a highlight from that album here, too. Nip, Amy, Nate, P! It's nice to keep their voices alive. Plus a whole lot of other great new joints you may not have heard.
Speaking of missing out on good music, I've created a new Spotify Playlist, The Tape Deck 2019, which features only MOST of the music you see here. (For instance, this GREAT new Black Thought song, "Noir", isn't on Spotify, so I couldn't throw it onto the playlist. Gahbidge.)
