In Stores Today: October 5, 2010

It's been a while since I dropped one of these posts. Every once in a while, someone'll ask me what I'm listening to at the moment. Good question, I'll say. Stalkers are always advised to camp out at my Last.fm page, frenetically clicking refresh on their browsers like a tweaking meth addict. To the rest of you, I'm gonna try to resume these In Stores Today posts. It's bad enough I spend all that time updating the Upcoming Albums section on the site's sidebar, I might as well include them in actual posts, right? In fact, I might begin to publish them on Mondays, to give you a heads up for what to check for in record stores (huh?) the following day. Kinda goes well with that #musicmonday hashtag. Or not. We'll see. One thing's for certain maybe: I will try to be writing a bit more on the site if I can manage to find the time to do so. That's a big if. But it's also a decent-sized try, so have some faith in me. No more reviews though. Recommendations or warnings only. See, I'm starting to feel like reviews are getting played out. I've felt this way for a while now actually. There are some great writers out there who can weave words and intricate paragraphs containing wit and some wisdom and... it turns out to be nothing more but a review of Lil Wayne's shitty new hodgepodge record. Huh? It seems like a waste to me. A waste of time for both the author and readers. Do you need me to write five paragraphs to let you know the new Flying Lotus album is worth checking for? Shad's album has been out for a while now, but it's only been made available in the U.S. today. Boom. Listen to the album (in case you haven't already). That's it. Am I wrong? I might start calling these posts simply #iFuxwitit. Direct. Besides, "What's in Ivan's iPod" would be too blatant if you know what I'm saying. Here we go:

8Ball & MJG - From the Bottom to the Top
Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops & Hooligans
