BlakRoc: The RZA & The Black Keys

I first heard The Black Keys in 2006 when they released their album Magic Potion. Their blues rock stylings were a breath of fresh air amongst a sea of the electronic-driven music I usually find whenever I'm looking for a new indie band or album to rave over. I was blown away even more when I heard the Danger Mouse-produced Attack & Release, released just last year. The album contained a track called "I Got Mine". Instant classic. In fact, I even flipped the intro portion on VirtualDJ beneath some rap acapellas in my spare time. In hindsight, I shoulda plugged it into Adobe Audition and did my thing with it so I can say I had the idea first, but fuck it. I'm just glad to see this new BlakRoc project coming to light, by the master mind Damon Dash no less!

The video above features The RZA working his magic in the 'udio with the Keys, and it really exemplifies his own musical reach, as a sample-seeking digger, a philosophical emcee, and as a bonafide musician with an ear for what's really good. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for this album. If all goes well, this could be a 'Best of '09' contender.

  1. wow, thanks for the heads up I'll be sure to check it out when it drops

  2. you gotta listen to their first 2 cds. self produced and released, i think its their best work

  3. Now this was cool and it tells me that Rza can bring something good and somewhat original(if not slightly borrowed) to the table if he's around the right people.
