In Memory of J Dilla: Danish Donuts (Prod. by Isbjerg)

Now this is what you call "paying homage"! Straight outta Denmark, beatmaker Isbjerg has reconstructed Dilla's famed Donuts record by playing around with the same samples that J Dilla flipped with such perfection. The result is a rather fitting tribute titled, quite appropriately, Danish Donuts. Isbjerg worked diligently (should I say "Dillagently"?) on this mix for weeks, so you know you're getting quality ish. Sundays were made for some good ol' soul music, and this mix right here hits the spot. Cop 'n enjoy... and TURN IT UP!!!

  1. just about everyone and everyones moms has done a tribute to dilla's donuts, is it really a tribute? or a way of getting heard for something on someone elses back? no one should bother flip all the samples Dilla used for donuts to create a 'tribute' or 'mixtape' because your not gonna flip them better than the legend J Dilla
    promote the real tributes please
    thankyou

  4. These Dilla tributes are becoming worse than posthumous Pac albums...

  7. Click the little link icon at the top of the embedded player. It'll take you to the DatPiff download/listen page for this mixtape.

    Hope that helps.

  8. If pac and Biggie are greatest rappers....the greatest producer deserves a tribute too....

  9. L Den - hater please! I did the album, mainly because I dicovered his great talents lately and had a need to do this album, trying to learn something new ways producing in the process..

  10. Believe me on im not a hater, this was my first negative comment on anyone, im just saying though, You may well have done this to learn something new but at the same time I see so many whack tributes, Dilla digged in those crates for these great samples, by sampling them all again, no-one is going to do any better. Maybe i got the wrong end of the stick, but for those that don't know the thank you jay dee series Ivan you should put that one up before anything. J. Rocc put work in, peep the evidence

  11. L Den is completely on point with his first comment. Dilla has become the defacto coattails-to-ride for up-and-coming producers. Dilla himself never did this type of shit.

  12. L Den: Don't get me wrong. I understand you're argument. And Anonymous (comment above me) makes a good (and true) point that "Dilla has become the defacto coattails-to-ride for up-and-coming producers". Nonetheless, I thought this mix was noteworthy for posting up. Isbjerg has done great work in the past and I've never featured it before.

  13. L Den took the words out of my mouth on the first comment, like L Den said - Ivan promote the J. Rocc mixes, the 4th 1 came out not long ago, not a peep from HHIR about that yet Sarah Silverman seems to be something Hip Hoppers need to listen to lmao

  14. Actually, we posted some J. Rocc shit the same time last year... Sad thing is, whenever I post up Stones Throw music, they always ask us to take it down... There are a few labels that are like that. STR is always at the top of the list.

Besides, it's not my job to "promote". This is a personal blog - not a NMC site etc.

...which is why posting up a Sarah Silverman video is not out of the question.

  15. Yo Ivan, could you do the Beatnuts, Street Level Sample set, or any other Beatnuts album (apart from Musical Massacre obviously) Major props for that if you could do it, I heard the Beatnut's samples are not as easy to find as other artists/groups. I got deep deep into those Word Life, Illmatic and Donuts sample sets that you, LTG or KN put together. Peace!
