2009: Mixtapes of the Week #3

Spread Love, It's the Brooklyn Way

Brooklyn really went hard this week, as Notorious made its debut on the silver screen. Coincidentally (yeah, right), a whole bunch of Brooklyn-themed projects came out of the woodwork, including some mixtapes featuring artists like the Queen, Aaliyah, the Godfather, Big Daddy Kane, and the Prince(?), Papoose. But it was a Biggie week, no doubt. DJ Mike Nice hit us up with a great rarities and demos tape featuring tracks from Big Poppa (as well as Hov' and Kane; together, I call them Hovakane), and Mick Boogie re-released his Unbelievable tape from '07. DJ Parler even flipped some B.I.G. samples as a nice addition to our own sample sets from Biggie's albums. But DJ Semi & DJ KG stole the show with their marvelous blends tape featuring some of the greatest B.I.G. remixes I've heard in a while ("I see you jockin' [B.I.G.], jockin', jockin' [B.I.G.]"). Kudos to all the DJs and mixmasters who did their thing this week. Let's see what week #4 has to offer. 'Til then, check these out, and don't forget... to... TURN IT UP!!
