R.I.P. Jay Dee

James Dewitt Yancey
1974-2006

James D. Yancey aka J Dilla aka Jay Dee would have been 34 this year on the 7th of February. Today is the day that the legendary producer, MC & DJ passed away - two years ago due to complications involving TTP and Lupus.
Purchase the Thank You Jay Dee: Act 1 mix CD mixed by J-Rocc here. Gorgeous Dilla tribute tees are available here. Profits from both go directly to Dilla's estate. Thank You Jay Dee: Act 3 is available for download now from the Stones Throw Podcast.

Stones Throw's J Dilla page has a comprehensive discography covering both his production and MC work.

Here's a great video of J Dilla in the studio with Frank N Dank & Common:

Finally, Ivan and I both contributed to the J Dilla Beat Drop at one of my other sites, Metal Lungies. For those unfamiliar with the Beat Drop feature at ML, we choose a producer and each writer picks their favorite productions by said producer and writes about them. For this one, we had guest writers from several blogs as well as producer Marco Polo: all writing about their favorite Jay Dee productions. I couldn't be prouder with the way the piece turned out.

Edit: Stones Throw's art director Jeff Jank emailed me and asked me to update some info in the post.
